Golf Carts
Florida Law (Chapters 316 and 320) governs the operation of golf carts. If you or your family own a golf cart, you are responsible for familiarizing yourself with the laws governing the allowable use andproper golf cart operation. We have also provided summary information below.
● No one under the age of 14 is permitted to operate a golf cart.
● Golf carts are not allowed on any sidewalks, greenspace walking paths, or greenspaces with
the following exceptions:
- Golfcarts are allowed in the park near the bus stop between 7:30-8:30am and 3:30-4:30 on School Days.
- Golf carts may be used in Lookout Point Park
making turns, abide by all regulatory signs (especially stop signs!), yielding to pedestrians in
crosswalks, etc. Operators of golf carts can be issued a law enforcement citation for infractions
and these citations carry fines and points on your license.
● Golf carts must be equipped with headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and a windshield to be
operated before sunrise and after sunset. If your cart does not have the features, you can only
use your cart during the hours between sunrise and sunset.
● Golf carts should yield to other vehicular traffic in all cases.
● Keep your arms and legs inside the vehicles at all times.
● Do not allow anyone to ride standing in/on the vehicle
● Reminder: Registered Low Speed Vehicles a.ka. LSV’s (a vehicle with a top speed greater
than 20 MPH, but not greater than 25 MPH) are subject to the Florida Statutes that pertain to
them including licensed driver requirements.
When operating a golf cart, please be aware of your surroundings and proximity to others. We all
have a responsibility to ensure the safety of not only ourselves but the safety of others as well.
If you see a golf cart being utilized on the roads in an unsafe or unlawful manner, you should
contact the Sheriff’s office at the non-emergency number (941) 316-1201 and if you need
immediate help then dial 911. Please report incidents of golf cart use in prohibited areas to the
management office.
